Vernon & ArtsThe OTIS College of Art and Design is working with the City of Vernon, and several business owners to develop VIVA (Vernon Institute for Visual Art), a collaboration that will produce a variety of conceptual design projects intended to improve the environment within the City or show Vernon in a positive light. ![]() More information about the program is outlined below: VIVA: Vernon Institute for Visual ArtMission: VIVA supports a broad range of visual art projects focused on the “exclusively industrial” City of Vernon, and promotes and exhibits these projects with the goal of expanding public interest and understanding of the contemporary industrial city. Phase I: January 25, 2007 – December 31, 2008 VIVA Launch: WebsiteOver the course of the year, six artists will be invited to conceptualize and complete a body of work in response to the City of Vernon. Each artists’ project will be featured on VIVA’s website, and a small publication will be produced (and made available for purchase on the website) to further promote each project in lieu of a public exhibition. A press release and announcement will be emailed to promote each project. Upon acceptance of invitation to participate as a VIVA artist, each artist will be given a tour of the City of Vernon conducted by VIVA Director Christopher Michlig, as well as opportunities to meet with city officials whose areas of expertise may compliment and facilitate the artists’ interest. |
